The first half term is over!

Class one have been busy as we have neared the end of term. There have been lots of sporting activities including the cross country and football tournaments.

In class we have been studying creating suspense in stories, making animations in ICT and adaptations in science.

Our maths set is busy today with the 'Straw Challenge' as an end of term treat! Using only 100 straws and some Sellotape, they are aiming to build a structure that will support a cup of water 50cm off the ground. Working collaboratively, each group is using planning, mental calculation, shape (relating to strength of structure), estimation, trial and error and team work skills. Results will be posted after half term when the structures will be completed and tested!

Welcome to Class One's blog!

Welcome to our class blog! All our weekly news will be posted here so you can keep updated with what our class have been doing.
Tuesday 15th October 2013.
Class One have been lucky enough to have visiting published poet, Susan Jane Sims, working with us on creating original poetry. Starting with writing our favourite words on raffle tickets, we have then built up poems using these words and the poetic techniques we learnt earlier in the term.
Susan is visiting as part of The Threshold Prize (www.thresholdprize.org.uk). the Threshold Prize was set up to encourage children's interest in the richness of the English language and help them develop their own creativity.
Following today's work, we will be writing up our poems and posting them on Sue's site, www.poetryspace.co.uk. There are also interactive activities on the site that anyone can add to......so have a go alongside your child!
